Everything you need to know before playing your first note.

If you are about to begin, read these four pages in order. They take less than fifteen minutes between them and will save you weeks of bad habits.

1. Choosing a recorder
Soprano or alto, plastic or wood, German or Baroque fingering.
2. Holding the recorder
Posture and hand position. The most common cause of squeaks.
3. Making your first sound
Whisper air and clean articulation.
4. Reading music
The staff, rhythm, and basic notation.
